At least one unidentified jet has carried out an air strike on Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport on Monday
Reuters quotes witnesses and local television as saying that the extent of damage was not clear.
The airport controlled by the Libya Dawn militia group, which is aligned with the islamist General National Congress in Tripoli, and opposed to the internationally recognised House of Representatives.
Al Jazeerar reports that the attack came just days after Libya’s National Army declared a shutdown of the airports in Tripoli and Misrata, declaring them as “military zones”.
Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were believed to have carried out air strikes against armed groups in Libya last month, but neither has admitted responsibility for the attacks.
